Immersed in the World Cup, it is interesting to remember that the
relationship between this sport and business management are numerous: it is
very usual to see former players, coaches and even referees who have experience
in business forums that advise on management of the group, achieving
objectives, time management, management of crises or challenges overcoming,
among other aspects. The list is long: Emilio Butragueño, José Antonio Camacho,
Pierluigi Colina, Andoni Zubizarreta, Diego Simeone, Juande Ramos...
Perhaps the best-known lecturer is Jorge Valdano, the world champion with
Argentina in 1986, which has recently published a book where he reviewed the
powers which, in its opinion must have a leader like credibility, hope,
passion, humility, style, Word or curiosity.
The film The Damned United, directed by Tom Hooper in 2009, is another
example that is shown in the business on how to manage teams (and how not to do
it) schools. Based on a book by David Peace, tells the adventures of the
controversial coach Brian Clough, who just couldn't train for 44 days at Leeds
United, which was then the best team of the English League. It is a good
example of a template with the potential that sabotages a coach to be fired by
the Board.
Combine passion and results
An article recently published in Krauthammer has an impact on the
relationship between football and coaches business management, with examples of
Mario Zagallo, Frank Beckenbauer and Vicente de el Bosque. Successful teams
combine passion with results, maintain control, adapt the message to the
situation or watch the competition.
A key aspect is based on holding accountable members of the team, to have
success in those roles where their skills lead to results. In addition, you
will proactively evaluate the progress and will be ready to quickly make
strategic changes, if necessary.
