Four golden rules for getting off to a good start

1. Personal appearance: Pay close attention to all details of your personal appearance. Unless you are presenting your candidature for a designer of alternative fashion, a job interview is not the place to experiment with your dress style or to wear anything that may be considered pretentious. In the case of women, be discreet with your makeup. Neither is this the time to display insignias of any type, especially political, nor to wear sunglasses. Your image should accentuate your professionalism.

2. Punctuality: Ideally you should arrive about five minutes before the arranged time. If you arrive too early, you will give the impression that you are anxious, and if you arrive late, even if it’s no more than a few minutes, you will appear lazy and lacking in respect. Try to leave home with enough time so that even a small delay will not prevent you from arriving on time.

3. Arrive alone: Arriving accompanied will make you seem insecure and cause a bad impression. If, for whatever reason, you are accompanied to the interview, enter the business premises alone.

4. Courtesy: Be polite. Greet the personnel courteously and avoid interrupting your interviewer. Turning off your mobile phone is a good idea.
